Onyx Coffee Lab was founded in Springdale, Arkansas, in 2012 by Jon and Andrea Allen. Created to raise standards for quality, transparency and accountability in specialty coffee, the company has grown from a local café into a nationally recognized roaster with cafés across Northwest Arkansas, a substantial wholesale program, coffee education and online subscriptions.

Onyx is particularly known for its detailed approach to coffee sourcing. Every coffee is accompanied by publicly available trade information, including the producer’s identity, the price Onyx paid, the coffee’s quality score and other supply-chain details. Its range includes accessible year-round blends, rotating single-origin releases, experimental processing methods and rare competition-level coffees.

Coffee is roasted and shipped every weekday from the company’s Rogers headquarters and roastery, which uses rooftop solar energy. Samples from every roast are cupped for quality control, and the resulting production data is tracked to help maintain consistency. Onyx also supports wholesale partners with training, equipment assistance, consulting and technical services.
